WhyBrian Ruether Went Early Decision

Why the Early Decision Application

Applying to college, I knew I wanted to focus on biochemistry and further my clarinet playing. After looking at other colleges, none of them had such an amazing music department as well as a great science department. The Sunderman Conservatory was really friendly, especially the clarinet instructor. I also really enjoyed learning about some of the research conducted by the college, a lot of which seemed to be supported by prestigious outside grants.

Favorite Aspects about Gettysburg College

I really love the sense of community here. It is so close-knit compared to other schools, mainly because of all the student and faculty-run events. Also, some of the organizations like the ultimate Frisbee team were so accepting to the first-years, I knew that I would fit in well here.

Sunderman Conservatory

I am really impressed by the energy of everyone in the conservatory. My clarinet instructor really brings a playful family dynamic to our clarinet studio and never ceases to impress me with his knowledge of clarinet technique and repair. The jazz band has also been a really great time. I’ve been playing the baritone sax for about three months now, and I couldn’t be having more fun learning the intricacies of a new instrument and playing such an exciting array of charts.

Biggest Piece of Advice for Prospective Students

There seems to be a niche for everyone here. No matter what piques your interest at Gettysburg, look into it, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
